Player and family FAQ

How will the club communicate with me?

The club communicates with members using MyHoops, WhatsApp and email.

MyHoops has all the game information published in it. You must login using the same email address used at registration. Once logged-in you can 'favourite' your child's team and sync their games to your calendar. Players must RSVP to games in the app each week.

Your Team Manager will add you to your child's team's WhatsApp group. You will receive club and team messages via WhatsApp. Some parents decide to include add their child to the WhatsApp group, which can be done with your permission.

We will contact you by email from time to time, for example when there are club events or it is time to register for the upcoming season. We will contact you at the email address you used at registration.

What do I need to know about training?

Training runs each week of the school term at the time/venue advised at registration. Training sessions are allocated based on coach, player and venue availability. Coaches may run sessions during the school holidays at their discretion.

Regular training is essential to player and team development, and we encourage players to attend each week. Please notify your coach via WhatsApp in advance if your child isn't attending so they can alter the training plan.

Players should bring a ball and water bottle to training. All basketballs should be named / initialed because they tend to get left behind and all look the same.

The CBA mandated ball size for each age group is:

  • Under 8-12: Size 5

  • Girls Under 14-onwards: Size 6

  • Boys Under 14: Size 6

  • Boys Under 16-onwards: Size 7

Guardians are welcome to attend training as it helps create a more communal aspect to your team and our club. You can volunteer to help the coach, which they might access from time to time. We must have two adults present at a training venue for safety reasons. Some teams (e.g. training full court at Brunswick Stadium) will need to have at least one parent stay at training to meet this requirement, which will be organised by the team manager. For teams that have a junior coach, the club expects an adult to be present at each training session.

It is your responsibility to pick up your child from training on time or to have made an acceptable arrangement. It is not the coaches or clubs’ responsibility to look after your child once training has concluded.

What is the registration process for next season?

During the second half of the season the club will send out an 'expression of interest' for players wanting to continue the next season. This information is vital for our planning and your prompt response saves the club hours of volunteer time.

In the last few weeks of the season the club will send out official registration information, and again we ask that you register by the deadline. In addition to helping with planning, it lets us know if we can offer places to children on the waiting list wanting to join the club.

Registration occurs in PlayHQ, which is the registration system used by CBA. Registration will include our club fee and a Basketball Victoria license.

How does my child's friend join the club?

During the season, if your team has a place (e.g. 7 or less players) speak with the team manager in the first instance. To join for the upcoming season they should join the club waiting list via the website and in the comments note that they are friends with your child.

What's the deal with scoring on Saturday?

Each team must provide one scorer each week, most arrange a roster to do so. Please help out. There is a video about how to score on the iPad, but its pretty intuitive anyway.

How do I provide feedback to the club?

In the first instance, talk with your team manager.

What is the end-of-season celebration?

At the end of each season we get together to celebrate our accomplishments with a club-wide BBQ. We give participation medals to all players up to and including U12, and coaches awards across all grades.

What is the Coach’s Award?

It is a recognition of a player’s positive outcomes during the season, decided on by the team’s coach. Each coach sets their own criteria that may include standout-play, significant improvement, good sportsmanship, encouraging teammates, listening to feedback and commitment to the team.
