Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join the club?
All teams for the upcoming season (Summer 2024/25) are full except for U18 Boys and U18 Girls, who can still join the waiting list.
If you were on our waiting list and have not been offered a place, please accept our apologies that we could not welcome you to the club this season.
We encourage young players wanting to get started to try the Coburg Basketball Association's Aussie Hoops and holiday programs. Other clubs in the CBA may have available places.
What teams do you have?
We have teams for all genders ranging from U8 to U18 playing in Coburg Basketball Association's junior domestic competition. We may start U20 teams in Summer 24/25 depending on interest levels.
Age groups for Summer 24/25 will be:
-
U8 - born in 2018 & 2019
-
U10 - born in 2016 & 2017
-
U12 - born in 2014 & 2015
-
U14 - born in 2012 & 2013
-
U16 - born in 2010 & 2011
-
U18 - born in 2008 & 2009
-
U20 - born in 2006 & 2007
What do I need to know about the games?
Games are on Saturday, starting between 8.00am and 4.00pm. While times vary, U8-U12s usually play in the morning and the U14-U18s in the afternoon.
Games occur at a number of venues (mostly schools) in a range of inner-north suburbs including Brunswick, Northcote, Coburg, Pascoe Vale South, Dallas, Preston and Reservoir.
We encourage our players to participate in tournaments such as Coburg Basketball Association's 3 x 3 Challenge and associations' specialist tournaments to build their game time experience.
What do I need to know about training?
Teams train once a week. Training sessions start between 4.00 and 5.30, last for an hour, and occur Monday to Friday depending on the team.
We run additional, optional programs including:
-
Girls in sport - combined sessions for girls across the club with guest trainers including WNBL players and Coburg Giants coaches
-
Before-school fitness sessions - for players in our U14+ teams
-
Scrimmages - regular intra-club games in the evenings
We improve the training delivered to players by developing our coaches' skills through Basketball Victoria courses, training resources and a coach-the-coach program.
We encourage our players to participate in holiday academies, such as those run by Deakin Boomers and Melbourne United, to access high level training opportunities.
What does it cost?
There are three costs associated with playing with Brunswick Magic:
-
In Winter 2024, Brunswick Magic's registration fee is $300.
-
Basketball Victoria's license is $29 for a year (two seasons).
-
A club uniform costs $95.
We have not set our fees for Summer 24/25 yet, but pricing will be similar.
I have a group of friends wanting to play, can we form a team?
If there are seven or eight of you, and you have someone able to coach, we may be able to help you create a team for you subject to training court availability.
